Weekend of Champions 2008
July 11 - July 13, 2008
St. Louis, MO
This year's Weekend of Champions Events gave St. Louis an amazing, unforseen sight to see. It all started off on July 11, 2008 with Youth Lifeline America's Annual McDonald's Free Football and Life Skills Camp at Harris-Stowe State University. This camp is a yearly event that allows St. Louis' inner city youth to share in their love of football with some of the top Pro-Athletes in the NFL, while at the same time, learning life skills from business professionals around St. Louis in hopes to enhance their futures.
After spending hours on the field giving back to the campers during the day, celebrity participants then put on their finest to give back at Youth Lifeline America's Annual Fundraising Red Carpet Event that night. This extravaganza was held at Bentley St. Louis in Chesterfield and attendees were able to rub elbows with celebrities, enjoy various activities that included Casino night, miniature golf, arcade games, a caricature artist, a fashion show, and so much more. It also featured an open bar presented by Bud Select and Purus and some of the tastiest cuisine from PF Changs, Yia-Yia's, Wapango, and Stoney River. The night was truly a fun and amazing experience that most importantly gave back to a much worthy cause.
However, the fun did not stop there....
The very next day on July 12,2008, athletes did it all over again and went back to camp that morning but then took the party to the Skybox on Laclede's Landing in Downtown St. Louis. This party, which was sponsored by Plaza Motors, was Youth Lifeline's Night of Champions and gave back to St. Louis' everyday champion by offering 1/2 off admission to teachers, Firemen, Police Officers, Medical Professionals, and all other Government employees.
Youth Lifeline ended this wonderful weekend by holding a graduation ceremony for the campers on Sunday, July 13, 2008, to award them for their achievements over the entire weekend.
To add even more excitement to it all, MTV attended the camp to film Roland as a "Made Coach" to one of the camp participants, which should air sometime in September.....
